Arcania: A Gothic Tale is the fourth installment of the Gothic series, and the first one to be developed by a company other than Piranha Bytes; the game will be developed by Spellbound.[2] The first teaser trailer revealed that Arcania is scheduled to be released in Winter 2009, but it's not confirmed by JoWooD so the release date is still unknown.[3] At the 2008 Games Convention in Leipzig, JoWooD presented ArcaniA behind closed doors, but despite all the security measures, a visitor managed to film a short gameplay video from ArcaniA. The video has achieved great succes among fans.[4] In 2009, JoWooD released the official website for Arcania: A Gothic Tale, revealing new information, screenshots and artworks.[5]
Ten years have passed since the end of Gothic 3 and the world has changed - the Southern Islands have become embroiled in a grueling conflict, and set the stage for the player to brave countless adventures in the guise of a nameless hero. In a vibrant and elaborate environment, decisions will have to be made which will change not only the future of the Southern Islands, but of the entire world...
Old acquaintances and new faces will aid the hero or attempt to thwart his efforts throughout his epic journey. Especially the members of the fairer sex will play a more important role. Who knows maybe the women will make the hero's life a little more complicated...
